I bet you’re going to say “write,” right? Well, that’s true, but I’m thinking of something else.
I often come across articles that list important skills of a technical communicator, and I often agree with them whole-heartedly. But, sometimes I want to rewrite them (of course I do) to say one important thing that technical communicators do best…
Learn new things quickly.
Technical writers are in the business of quickly learning new products, concepts, methodologies, and so on, then turning around and documenting them for others under tight deadlines. Each and every detail will pass by a technical communicator’s eyes. Nothing will escape our curious grasp!
Can you imagine a technical communicator who refused to learn anything new? Neither can I.
